A large part of our immune system is not where you might expect it, but in the gut: around 80% of immune cells reside in the intestinal mucosa. The composition of the gut flora – the community of trillions of microorganisms – therefore has a major influence on how balanced our immune response is.
When this balance is disrupted, the immune system can overreact. Probiotic bacteria such as Lactobacillus paracasei are natural components of a healthy gut flora and help to stabilise it.
The gut-immune axis
The gut and the immune system are in constant communication. Through the so-called gut-immune axis, the composition of the microbiota influences how the immune system distinguishes between harmless and harmful stimuli. A diverse, stable gut flora supports a balanced immune response.
Lactobacillus paracasei LP-33 and GMNL-133 are natural components of a healthy gut flora. As patented, clinically tested strains, they are used specifically to complement the microbiota.
The role of Vitamin D
Vitamin D contributes to the normal function of the immune system – an EFSA-approved health claim. Research has also linked low vitamin D levels to a greater tendency towards allergies.
PRObiom® AllerCare contains 5 µg of Vitamin D3 (100% NRV) per capsule.
